Developing a Roadmap for a Growing School District
Great Valley School District, located 25 miles west of Philadelphia in Malvern, Chester County, Pennsylvania, educates approximately 4000 students in four elementary schools (K-5), one middle school (6-8), and one high school (9-12). The District believes that technology is central to learning. All schools have been computer and video wired to allow for maximum utilization of technology.
Challenges
Great Valley School District has been providing education to the community since 1923. But as the district has grown and as all schools require the increased need for technology to help run their districts more efficiently, Great Valley recognized that their technology was not aligned to effectively support the needs of the district.
GVSD was seeking a partner to help them better understand their key technical risks, as well as where the technology organization should be realigned to support the evolving needs of the District and its students, all in accordance with long-term strategies and objectives, as well as industry best practices and benchmarks. This included a review of the entire technology organization – applications, hardware, staff, security, and more.
Solutions
Weidenhammer provided Great Valley School District with a Technology Roadmap and organizational recommendations around the technology staffing, including Consulting and Virtual CIO services. Weidenhammer also provided detailed security assessment on each piece of infrastructure with recommendations for reducing risk.
Results
Weidenhammer worked with GVSD to reorganize its IT staff including promoting an individual to Supervisor of Technology. Weidenhammer remediated security concerns with infrastructure, and examined costs and issues related to outsourced IT staff.
Great Valley School District now has a roadmap to support their evolving needs and long-term strategies and objectives moving into the future.
